Introduction

The purpose of a writer is to communicate information to the readers. The first reader is usually yourself before your text is made available to the audience. The success of a text, is often based on the readership. For instance, when readership of a certain title is high, it will in turn generate even higher readership as the book gets recommended through a snowball effect. Thus awareness of the audience is crucial as the writer writes for a mass audience and not for himself in general.

Does that mean that an author have to sacrifice his freedom to express for the sake of readership?

When a writer writes, he always have a targeted audience in his mind. He does not write to please everybody in the world as this is technically not achievable. Thus, he will always choose a topic to write on that he has a passion for. In return, his targeted audience will also be the people that share his interest in the subject area concern.
